Karen E. Mueller,
DVM
Dr.
Karen Mueller is a veterinarian who has had a great love of animals since childhood. She received her veterinary degree
at Washington State University in 1990 and has since practiced small animal medicine, shelter and emergency medicine,
feline practice, and spay & neuter practice. In 1995 she received her Certification in Animal Chiropractic from
the American Veterinary and Chiropractic Association in Port Byron, Illinois, and soon thereafter started her own animal chiropractic
practice, Mueller Animal Chiropractic. She has practiced small animal and equine chiropractic for the past 15 years,
as well as working as a general practitioner, feline practitioner, and spay & neuter veterinarian. Dr.
Mueller developed a keen awareness of the pet overpopulation problem during her veterinary training, where local shelter
animals were used for student practice, then euthanized. She has worked for years to combat pet overpopulation, getting
involved with and helping develop different spay and neuter programs. She is co-founder of WeSNIP, the Whatcom Education,
Spay & Neuter Impact Program, a 501(c)3 non-profit spay and neuter organization, providing high-quality, high-volume,
low-cost spay/neuter (HQHVLC S/N) to her community. Prior to founding WeSNIP, she was medical director for development
of the “Spay Station”, a state-of-the-art mobile surgical unit owned by Pasado’s Safe Haven, which provided
free and low-cost spay and neuter services to King and Snohomish counties. For many years she has encouraged community
and veterinary involvement in Spay Day, USA, a special event sponsored by the Humane Society of the United States each February.
For the past 6 years she has gone to Mexico with Compassion Without Borders to provide spay/neuter and health services for
animals in impoverished areas.
Dr. Mueller hopes that someday all animals who need it will receive chiropractic
care and appropriate pain management, and that someday every dog and cat will be valued and will have a permanent, loving
home.
Now
married with 2 children, Dr. Mueller works as the surgeon for WeSNIP as well as in her animal chiropractic practice.
An avid equestrian, she is currently working on building her equine chiropractic practice, and continues to help develop a
strong spay/neuter program for her community.
